The first Jordanian evacuation planes coming from Sudan arrived at Amman Airport on Sunday night.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced earlier that under royal directives four planes of the Royal Jordanian Air Force took off from Port Sudan International Airport heading to Marka Military Airport in the capital, Amman.

The planes carry on board 343 citizens of the Jordanian community and Palestinians, Iraqis, and Syrians, in addition to people from Germany.

Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed the start of the evacuation of Jordanian citizens in Sudan.

The ministry issued a statement that read it is currently implementing royal directives to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of Jordanian citizens residing in Sudan.

It added that the evacuation process will take into account the security conditions on the ground.

The ministry's spokesperson Sinan Majali said that the process of evacuating Jordanians from Sudan will include at least 300 people.

Sudan has been witnessing heavy fighting since April 15 -- which broke out between forces loyal to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy-turned-rival Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
