A man was detained for 15 days after selling his kidney for JD 17,000, a source told Roya.

The Rusaifa Public Prosecutor decided to detain the Jordanian man for 15 days, subject to renewal and pending investigations, on the charge of removing organs in accordance with the provisions of Article 9/3 of the Human Trafficking Law.

The man offered to sell his kidney on a social media page that specializes in the sale of organs in Turkey.

The source said the citizen agreed to sell his kidney for JD 17,000 to pay off a bank loan, in addition to other debts.

The same source added, the page is managed from outside Jordan and the citizen received an offer from a Syrian man who resides in Turkey.

The man went to Turkey after the two parties agreed and he underwent a nephrectomy in a hospital in Turkey, the source said.

The cybercrime unit was able to track down the citizen, arrest him and refer him to the Public Prosecutor.
