Guatemalan security forces, with support from the US, arrested four doctors on organ trafficking charges after they allegedly removed a kidney without his consent during surgery.

The four doctors, two urologists, a surgeon and a pathologist, were brought before a judge to be notified of the reasons for their detention.

At the end of the hearing, the magistrate granted them conditional release and set the first statement hearing for March 14.

One of the doctors arrested Orlando Rodas said "I only examined the surgical specimen and gave my opinion, and that is the only thing I do, I do nothing else, so I think that in my case I should have been called as an expert, rather than as part of the process."

He continued saying, "They send me the samples that the surgeons have resected and I review them, analyse them, study them and make a report and that's the only thing I did in this case, so I didn't really participate in the surgery."
