The number of murders in 2022 rose to 118, an increase of 14 crimes from 2021 in Jordan, according to the National Center for Forensic Medicine Wednesday.

In 2022, the number of suicides decreased to 145, down from 167 in 2021.

The director of the National Center for Forensic Medicine Majed Al-Shamayleh said that last year a total of 28 women and seven children were murdered.

A total of 36 females committed suicide in 2022 among the 145 cases reported in 2022. The report also noted that three children ended their lives by hanging in 2022.

The oldest person to commit suicide in 2022 was an 83-year-old who inhaled carbon monoxide.

Homicides mostly occurred in Amman (50) and Irbid (29).

Shamayleh called for providing a database and conducting surveys to measure crime and suicide motives in Jordan.
