Ongoing technical, legal dialogue to bring back TikTok in Jordan: Government

The Minister of Government Communication, Faisal Al-Shboul, Sunday told Roya that the relevant local authorities are currently involved in technical and legal dialogue to reactivate TikTok in Jordan, according to certain conditions.

Shboul explained that concerned authorities need to protect children from different types of content available on social media which is published without any "control."

Jordan has adopted the "European experience" in dealing with social media, according to Shboul.

He pointed out that the Commissioner-General of the Human Rights Council sent a "sharp message of criticism" regarding daily practices on social media, which are related to hate speech, bullying and fraud on these platforms.

He explained that many Arab countries deal with similar practices on social networking sites, and that the League of Arab States is monitoring what will result from the "Jordanian experience."

Shboul said that the government is "Going to pass a law to regulate the work of social networking sites in coordination with the League of Arab States."
