Sunday, the European Union Delegation to the Palestinians took to Twitter to express their concern regarding ongoing developments in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem.

“Incidents of settler violence, irresponsible provocations and other escalatory acts in this sensitive area only fuel further tensions & must cease,” The EU tweeted.

The recent violent clashes led to several injuries and arrests.

Similarly, the Palestinian presidency said that the continuation of Jewish terrorism in Sheikh Jarrah, and the rest of the Palestinian cities, villages and camps, reflects the reality of Israeli Occupation as an apartheid state.

This came according to a press statement issued earlier Sunday by the Minister of Information of the Palestinian National Authority and spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh.

Abu Rudeineh said, “The Jewish terrorism that we witnessed today in Sheikh Jarrah, and what we see daily in the rest of the Palestinian cities, villages and camps, represent an Israeli political orientation and decision, which defies international law, especially the US administration that announced its rejection of the displacement of the Palestinian population and all unilateral measures taken by Israel,”

He added, "What has been happening since yesterday evening in Sheikh Jarrah, and the increase in settler violence and lack of deterrence, has reached unprecedented levels."

He added that the increase in violence among settlers in several Palestinian areas “under the protection of the [IOF] requires urgent international intervention to provide protection for the Palestinian people.”

The spokesperson noted that the policy of population displacement and house demolitions requires the international community to turn its futile condemnations into serious and real pressure, and to impose sanctions on Israel in order to oblige it to abide by international legitimacy, according to Palestine News & Info Agency.

“Abu Rudeineh said that the system of apartheid and displacement brought Israel into complete isolation and above international law, stressing that its failure to abide by the resolutions of international legitimacy turned it into an "apartheid" state,” the agency added.

“The peaceful popular resistance will remain the most important and most effective weapon in restoring Palestinian rights,” he said.
