Friday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published a video clip, documenting the moment a child in Syria was tortured and severely beaten by his kidnappers, with the aim of forcing his family to pay a ransom in exchange for his return to them.

In the video, the 6-year-old child, named Fawaz, was severely beaten with what appears to be a leather belt, lying on a bed dressed only in his underwear, crying and begging his kidnappers to stop beating him, pleading: "For God's sake, do not hit me."

The child was kidnapped by unknown people from the village of Ibtta in the countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

Eyewitnesses had stated that masked men on a motorcycle intercepted the road in front of the child and his brother in November, on their way to school, and kidnapped the boy.

The kidnappers are demanding 500 million Syrian pounds (around $150,000) for the release of the child, Fawaz.

The kidnappers have sent several videos of the child begging his parents to pay the money, according to the observatory.
