Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe for pregnant and lactating women? Health Ministry answers

Sunday, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health (MoH) for Primary Health Care Ghazi Sharkas confirmed that people who suffer from excessive sensitivity and wish to receive the coronavirus vaccine, can head to hospitals and receive it under medical supervision.

In statements to Hala Akhbar, Sharkas said that there are no groups exempted from receiving the vaccine in Jordan.

He stressed that in order to limit the spread of the virus in Jordan, the largest possible number of people should get vaccinated.

Regarding pregnant and lactating women, Sharkas stressed that the vaccine is ‘safe’ for them, as they usually suffer from immunodeficiency and some of them suffer from chronic diseases.

However, he said that receiving the vaccine is not compulsory for pregnant and lactating women.

Jordan began its national COVID-19 vaccination campaign Jan. 13.

A total of 3,164,160 people have been fully vaccinated against the virus in the Kingdom.
