Dead animals, hazardous waste reflect toxic environment around King Abdullah Canal
Engineer Manar Al Mahasneh, Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, said Tuesday that the authority is currently studying temporary solutions to the accumulation of waste and the general toxic environment around the King Abdullah Canal.
Mahasneh added, during her hosting of the Roya News Bulletin, on Tuesday, that there are no government allocations for cleaning the channel.
She stressed that cleaning the King Abdullah Canal is the responsibility of the Jordan Valley Authority, noting that priority is given to cleaning the northern part of the canal, which is cleaned on a daily basis, unlike the southern part, which is cleaned every two weeks.
The administrator of the Southern Shouneh District, Dr. Tayel Al-Majali, said that the overlapping of responsibilities between the municipalities and the Jordan Valley Authority leads to services that do not meet citizen expectaions.
For years, citizens have complained of the ever-deteriorating Canal, which is now considered a hazard to public safety.
