An attack with 14 missiles Wednesday targeted the Ain al-Assad base, which includes US military personnel in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq, lightly wounding two people, according to a spokesman for the international coalition.

The spokesman for the international coalition in Syria and Iraq, Colonel Wayne Maroto, said in a tweet on Twitter that "Ain al-Assad base was attacked with 14 missiles, causing two minor injuries," explaining that "the damage is being assessed."

The attack occurred at 12:30 (0930 GMT), according to the spokesman.

Earlier, an Iraqi military source spoke of the same base being attacked with seven missiles, without causing any casualties.

The attack comes a day after Erbil International Airport, near which the US Consulate is located, in the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, was attacked with booby-trapped drones, without causing casualties or material damage, according to the region's authorities.

No one has claimed responsibility for these attacks, which have become almost daily.

The Ain al-Assad base, which is located in a desert area in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq, was attacked on Monday by three missiles. Hours later, the US embassy in Baghdad faced a threat from a booby-trapped drone that was shot down by US forces.

Since the beginning of the year, about 50 attacks have targeted US interests in Iraq, especially the US embassy in Baghdad and Iraqi military bases that include Americans, and the Baghdad and Erbil airports, as well as coalition logistical convoys, in attacks often attributed to Iraqi pro-Iran factions.

Seven of these attacks were carried out with booby-trapped drones.

The Popular Mobilization, which includes mostly pro-Iranian factions, opposes the American presence in Iraq, and its leaders welcome the recent attacks on Iraqi military bases housing Americans, but they do not adopt them.
