The head of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System, Samir Al-Rifai, said Tuesday that the work of the committee is governed by the royal directives and its implications for the development and modernization of Jordan.

Rifai added, during a press conference at the Royal Cultural Center, that the Royal Committee's efforts are focused on ensuring the practice of a political party parliamentary life through the sub-committees that contributes to achieving their wishes as the Jordanian state enters its second centenary.

He pointed out that the committee's responsibility is to draw up consensual bills to ensure a gradual transition towards achieving future goals.

He said that His Majesty the King ordered them to present a vision within a clear time frame to define final goals and a strategy to achieve them, adding that the committee will work to establish a political system in order to develop a culture of citizenship and create partisan programs in the House of Representatives.

Rifai emphasized that the Royal Committee is not subjected to any pressure or outward interference, and the results of the committee will be adopted by the government and submitted to the House of Representatives, stressing that the sub-committees work in a symbiotic manner and differences are merely a part of the nature of political work.

He stressed that the outputs are the ones that judge the committee's work, saying that the committee is guided by the discussion papers of His Majesty in order to build on a political party life and establish advancement.

He said that the royal directive is clear and their goal is to reach a parliamentary political life and to convince the citizen of the Kingdom's electoral process and its outcomes, as there will be two new projects for elections and parties.

Rifai urged the Jordanian youth to engage in partisan work, stressing that there will be no consequences for it.

He indicated that there are seven million Jordanians who are part of the committee, noting they are receiving comments and feedback on a regular basis.

Rifai indicated that there will be a website dedicated to receiving and studying citizens' ideas soon.

He pointed out that unemployment among young people is high and Jordan's economy must be reassessed.

On the issue of quotas in the Parliament, Rifai said there are different opinions, especially regarding quotas for women, who constitute 53 percent of the population.

"We hope that we will reach a Parliament without quotas in the future, but in our current situation, we must focus on “quotas” and find new and different ideas regarding the matter," he said.
