Giant George Floyd Sculpture unveiled in New York

Monday, on the occasion of Juneteenth, a six-foot sculpture of George Floyd's head was unveiled in Brooklyn, New York.

The statue was inaugurated by Floyd's brother in the borough, and is set to be relocated to Union Square in Manhattan at a later stage.

While the sculpture was met with cheers, many questioned several things, the first being why the statue was located in Brooklyn, given that Floyd was murdered in Minnesota.

Others even took issue with the statue design, questioning why it was white.

Floyd was murdered by a police officer during an arrest after a store clerk suspected he may have used a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis.

Derek Chauvin, one of four police officers who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, killing him.
