Thursday, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) assaulted the journalist Zeina Al-Halawani and the photojournalist, Wahbi Makiya, in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.

Halawani and photojounalist Wahbi Makiya were dragged away by the IOF while preparing a report on the attacks and practices of the Israeli Occupation in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, wherein residents are threatened with forced evictions for the benefit of settlers.

In videos emerging online, the IOF were assaulting Halawani Makiya. Clips online showed the effects of injury to Makiya's head, who revelaed that he had been subjected to violence by the IOF.

In resistance, Halawani was seen smiling in face of the violence - an image seen regularly as Palestinians are forcefully arrested by the Israeli Occupation.

In turn, the Journalist Support Committee (JSC) condemned the arrest of the duo during their news coverage.

Additionally, the JSC renewed its condemnation of the continued targeting of journalists and the media during military operations, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

They called on the concerned authorities, especially the International Criminal Court (ICC) and UNESCO, to conduct prompt and transparent investigations into the crimes and attacks committed against journalists, in accordance with the principle of ending impunity for crimes committed against journalists.
