A 23-year-old Palestinian filmmaker, Omar Rammal,  recently went viral on social media for his short film ‘The Place’ which cinematically depicts the Palestinian experience and their suffering by the Israeli Occupation settlers over the past 73 years.

In an interview with Roya News English, Rammal quoted the Palestinain writer Ibrahim Nasrallah as saying, “Stories that we do not tell become the property of our enemies..”

With these words, Rammal began explaining the harsh story of most Palestinians.

His 1.5-minute film shows a family talking about their favorite places in their house. Each member of the family chooses a place they prefer the most inside their house that is supposed to be a place for their ‘memories and future.’

Throughout the film, Zionists are seen taking favorited items from the house, not unlike the modern day reality of Palestinians.

During the interview, Rammal talked about the role of social media in shedding light on the current situation happening in Palestine.

He said, “Now social media changes things, forms public opinion, creates pressure in society and helps people to see the truth.”

“As we can see now, everyone is posting about Palestine. This constitutes a great pressure, just like the person who is resisting inside Palestine and maybe even more because by that their reality is revealed.”

Additionally, Rammal spoke about the filming process, saying it took them only three days to get everything done, from coming up with the idea to filming and editing.

According to Rammal, the only obstacle they faced was finding the characters who will play the role of Israeli Occupation settlers.

He said “People were scared, they didn’t want to appear in such an image.”

Lastly, he sent a message to the world saying, “My message is that no matter what we do, it is never enough for their [Palestinians] resilience.”
