Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi emphasized the need for the international community to take effective and immediate steps to provide protection to the Palestinian people from Israeli Occupation attacks and violations.

During telephone conversations with the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Winsland, Safadi said that the Israeli Occupation bears responsibility for the escalation and pushing the entire region towards more tension and conflict.

He further said that stability and peace cannot be achieved without the end of the occupation.

During his talks with the UN envoy, Safadi stressed the need to launch an urgent and effective move to end the occupation and meet all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people as the only way to achieve peace.

The minister also affirmed that preventing the crime of displacing Sheikh Jarrah’s people from their homes is a responsibility that must be borne by the international community, stressing that the Israeli Occupation, as the occupying power, is obligated according to international law to respect the rights of Palestinians in their homes.

Safadi also warned of the catastrophic repercussions of the continued Israeli Occupation violations and attacks in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the need to respect the historical and legal status quo.

Safadi and Winsland presented the actions and efforts aimed at stopping the escalation and attacks on the Palestinian people, stressing the continuation of communication and coordination. In addition, Safadi will participate tomorrow in the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the level of foreign ministers, to discuss the Israeli Occupation attacks and violations against Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
