The representative of the foodstuff sector in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Raed Hamadeh, said that the demand for buying Eid hospitality supplies for Eid al-Fitr is still weak, due to insufficient working hours.

Hamadeh said in a press statement Monday that the commercial sector was disappointed after the government reduced the curfew hours as of the first day of Eid al-Fitr, but did not include the remaining days of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Hamada indicated that the commercial movement in purchasing Eid hospitality supplies, such as coffee, mamool and dates, is currently at its lowest levels compared to previous years, despite the low prices that different shops are offering.

Hamadeh said that the main reason behind the weakness of the commercial movement to purchase hospitality supplies in preparation for the Eid al-Fitr, is the limited working hours allowed, as it is considered insufficient to enable citizens to buy their needs.

Hamadeh called on the government to extend working hours during the remaining days of Ramadan.

Sunday, Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh issued a notice to reduce the night curfew hours, starting on the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, to become from 10pm for establishments and 11pm for individuals until 6am.

The government confirmed that this decision comes within the framework of the safe, gradual mitigation measures that the they will take in accordance with the developments of the COVID-19 situation, leading to the strategic goal of reaching a safe summer.

The government pointed out that these decisions remain based on the commitment of citizens and establishments to public safety measures.
