Thursday, Jordanians began making preparations ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan, which, according to the International Astronomical Center, is set to fall on April 12 in most countries given that the month of Shaban (the eighth month of the Islamic calendar) began March 15.

Qatayef is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert, commonly called the 'Middle-Eastern pancake,' which is folded in half, and is traditionally stuffed with fresh white cheese or crunchy nuts, and then drenched in a sugary syrup.

Qatayef is one of the many treats prepared by Muslims during Ramadan to compensate for their day-long fasting from food or water. It is usually enjoyed after Iftar as a treat.

Qatayef dates all the way back to the Fatimid Dynasty and Abbasid Caliphate when the dessert was first created.
