Late Friday night, 144,000 doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford University coronavirus vaccines arrived in Jordan through the COVAX coalition on a plane arriving from South Korea to the Queen Alia International Airport.

The Minister of Health Nathir Obeidat, said that Jordan was the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to receive vaccines through COVAX.

The European Union (EU) has provided a total of eight million euros to support the Ministry of Health's purchase of COVID-19 vaccines through COVAX. A second batch is expected to arrive in Jordan April.

The EU's ambassador to Jordan, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, said in statements that “Through the European Union’s contribution of € 2.2 billion to the COVAX coalition, we aim to ensure that all our partners have access to safe and effective vaccines. We can only add our voice to the voice of the Jordanian government in encouraging people to register on the Ministry of Health platform to receive the vaccine, as it has gradually become available. "
