On Mar. 10, the US Department of State published an update to the Travel Advisory for Jordan. The State Department advised American citizens to avoid going to a number of places in Jordan, because of what it referred to as 'terrorism and crime.' The following information was shared with US citizens via e-mail.

American citizens were advised not to travel to the following locations:

  • Within 3.5 km (previously 10km) of the Jordanian border with Syria and east of the town of Ruwaished in the direction of the border with Iraq 'due to terrorism and armed conflict.'
  • Designated Syrian refugee camps (previously all refugee camps) in Jordan ‘due to Government of Jordan restrictions on entry into these camps.’
  • Zarqa, Rusaifa and Baqaa in Ain al-Basha ‘due to terrorism and crime.’

The State Department also advised American citizens in Jordan to reconsider going to Ma’an and Salt ‘due to terrorism and crime.’

The State Department called on American citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to remain updated and receive notifications.
