Gyms and sports clubs are on the list of establishments that were ordered to shut down, as announced by the government Wednesday. These facilities have only been reopened for a little over a month since Feb. 1 following a three-month closure, which left many members of the sector frustrated.

Roya spoke to a few gym owners who called on the government to exclude them from licensing fees and other taxes for the year 2021, which they believe is fair considering the long closures they have been subjected to.

All business owners that spoke to Roya confirmed that they have paid all licensing fees and taxes that were due at the beginning of the year. They added that they were only allowed to operate for approximately 40 days since the beginning of 2021, during which they ensured compliance with health and safety measures.

Hundreds of gyms and sports clubs will suffer from the repercussions of closures, which is why they are demanding the government to support them and provide compensation.
