A total of 44 couples Sunday got married in a mass wedding in El Salvador on Valentine's Day amid the coronavirus crisis. Mask-clad couples walked down the aisle and said 'I do' to the sound of marimbas in the capital of San Salvador.

The mayor of San Salvador Ernesto Muyshondt chaired the event which was held in Cuscatlán park or "Lovers Park" in the west of the capital, to celebrate their free-of-charge wedding.

One of the grooms Francisco Aparicio (75) told AFP "Today, I feel happy because I am going to be legally united," to Emigdia Gómez (68).

The youngest couple to take part were Moisés Noel Rosa and Sandra Abigail Ramírez, both of which are 18 years old and met when they were 14 years old. Moisés told AFP "We are devoted to each other and we want to have two children."

Another groom said "It's going to be unforgettable because we are in a pandemic and yet we were given the opportunity to get married."
