Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh chaired a meeting Saturday to address the recent uptick in coronavirus cases in the Kingdom.

The committee listened to a briefing by the Minister of Health, Dr. Nathir Obeidat, and Dr. Wael Al-Hayajneh, the head of the coronavirus portfolio in the county, about the developments in the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom.

The committee discussed possible options to combat the spread of the virus, but agreed to wait for a few days before taking action.

The Prime Minister directed the ministries and relevant authorities to tighten control over the commitment of individuals and establishments to preventive and public safety measures.

The committee also discussed developments related to vaccination procedures, especially with regard to efforts to provide more vaccines from multiple sources, and to intensify contacts with companies and countries producing vaccines for this purpose.

A member of the Epidemiology Committee, Dr. Munir Abu Hilaleh, who was present at the meeting, said the situation in Jordan is not bad and that the Kingdom is in a transitional intermediate epidemiological phase.

He stressed that opening primary schools was a good decision and that the decision to continue distance education in universities was also a sound decision because university students are vulnerable to infection.
