Three people were killed and at least 150 people were missing in northern India after a Himalayan glacier broke apart and crashed into a hydroelectric dam, causing a river to flood and washing away bridges and roads Sunday, police said.

"We have identified at least three bodies in the riverbed. Our latest update indicates that the number of missing is 150 and there are 16 or 17 people trapped inside a tunnel," a police spokesman in the state of Uttarakhand told AFP.

According to Al Jazeera, Pauri, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Haridwar, and Dehradun were all put on high alert.

Water levels are about one meter higher than usual.

Indian PM Modi is monitoring the situation.

This is a developing story.
