Oman's decision to close borders came into effect on Jan. 19, as a precautionary measure to combat the spread of the mutated COVID-19 strain.
In December, Oman launched its COVID-19 vaccination campaign, with the Sultanate’s Health Minister becoming the first citizen to receive the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Since the start of the pandemic, Oman confirmed 134,326 coronavirus cases and 1,529 deaths.
