Risha Gas Field’s Well 53 raises production capacity by eight million cubic feet per day: NPC

Wednesday, the Director General of the National Petroleum Company (NPC), Mohammed Al-Khasawneh, announced that the results of the evaluation of Well 53 in the Risha Gas Field showed a production capacity of eight million cubic feet per day, which raises the production capacity of the field to about 27 million cubic feet of the Kingdom's total daily consumption of about 350 million.

He said in a press statement that these results contribute to raising the production capacity of the wells operating in the field from 19 million to 27 million cubic feet per day and supply the national economy with added value and enhance the Kingdom's energy resources.

Al-Khasawneh stressed the importance of the results shown by Well 53 in enabling the NPC to implement its strategic plan, which is based on stages to increase the contribution of local sources of energy to the total energy consumed, praising the support that the company receives from the government to move forward with achieving results that enhance the field's production.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati, announced Dec. 13 that drilling operations in Well 53 in the Risha field had shown “promising results”, and that the final results of evaluating daily production quantities should be expected before the end of 2020.

Zawati’s statements therefore confirm that this achievement comes in line with the comprehensive strategy set by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for the years 2020-2030, which aims to increase the contribution of local energy sources to generate electricity to 48.5 percent in 2030 compared to 15 percent in 2019.

Well 53 is the largest producing well in the Risha Gas Field, as operations in the past two years resulted in the production of about 10 million cubic feet of gas from wells 48 (Seven million cubic feet) and 49 (three million cubic feet), while the productivity of the remaining 12 wells reached about 9 million cubic feet.
