Monday, the United States held Tehran for the first time responsible for the "kidnapping" and "likely death" of former FBI agent Bob Levinson after he went missing in 2007 in Kish Island, Iran under mysterious circumstances.

He was last seen alive in 2011 in pictures published by his captors. He was allegedly in Iran on a mission for the CIA.

The US Treasury Department announced that Washington imposed sanctions on two senior Iranian intelligence officials, Muhammad Basri and Ahmed Khazaee, on suspicion of their involvement in the Levinson case.
