The Independent Election Commission (IEC) Sunday referred a number of parliamentary election candidates to the public prosecutor for allegedly violating election laws.

The Commission's spokesperson Jihad Momani said the IEC received a few voice recordings, videos and other materials that point to some candidates being involved in vote-buying activities.

Some of the candidates are current MPs.

He said these candidates "deliberately insulted the electoral process and the Independent Election Commission in an unacceptable way, as they sought to sow confusion over the electoral process, and questioned the integrity and impartiality of the commission for reasons related to their dissatisfaction with their personal results of the elections."
