A press conference was held at the Prime Ministry by the government involving the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Ali Al-Ayed and the Minister of Health, Nathir Obeidat Sunday.

The latest developments in the Jordanian COVID-19 health situation were discussed as follows:

The Jordanian health system is still capable to handle the coronavirus crisis, despite the increased number of new cases and deaths this week, al-Ayed said.

The Gardens Hospital has been designated to treat COVID-19 patients, with 180 beds and 40 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, al-Ayed added.

The government has made an agreement with private hospitals to provide 1,000 beds and 180 ICU beds for coronavirus patients, he added.

Additionally, al-Ayed said the government has signed an agreement with a company to establish three new field hospitals with a total capacity of 1,050 beds and 180 ICU beds, in Amman, Irbid and Ma'an.

These three hospitals will be ready to treat coronavirus patients within 35 days.

The number of medical staff will be increased in public hospitals in order to face the coronavirus crisis, said al-Ayed.

Total lockdown will remain as scheduled to start 10pm Tuesday and until 6am Sunday.

Coronavirus infections double every two weeks in Jordan, said Obeidat.

Obeidat added by the end of the week, COVID-19 patients will begin to be transferred to Gardens Hospital, noting that the cost for treatment will be fair.
