A Palestinian prisoner from a village in the West Bank has fathered a baby girl after smuggling his sperm out of an Israeli-occupation jail.

Emad Musa’s wife gave birth to Haifa on Wednesday.

His wife, Lubna Ra’oof, said: “This shows that the occupation cannot break our will and strength. I encourage all wives of prisoners to follow my lead.”

The Israeli authorities refuse to issue birth certificates for children of prisoners who are born as a result of ‘sperm smuggling’ specifically to discourage the practice.

Musa, was among the detainee freed as a result of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal in 2011, but was arrested again in 2014. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
