Spokesman for the National Committee for Epidemics Nathir Obaidat said that random COVID-19 tests will be increased in the Al-Nasr area, east of Amman after three cases were recorded in the area yesterday.

In a statement to Roya, Obaidat confirmed that the investigation teams began to detect how the three cases contracted the virus and to test people who had contact with the infected.

He added that the aim of increasing the random tests is to discover any cases that didn't show symptoms, indicating that the epidemiological investigation committee started to conduct random tests in areas where cases were reported in addition to areas that witness a high population density.

Obaidat said that five COVID-19 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where one of them is critical and the patient in on the artificial respiration.

Earlier yesterday, the Minister of Health, Saad Jaber announced that the total number of coronavirus cases in Jordan reached 389, as eight new cases were recently confirmed.

The new cases are three people in the northern Hashmi (Hashmi Al Shamali) building in Amman, one person who contracted the virus from his infected father, one who had contact with an infected person and three cases discovered during random tests conducted by the epidemiological investigation teams, the Minister said during a press briefing at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management.

"24 recovery cases were reported today, of which 20 at Prince Hamzah Hospital in Amman, three at King Abdullah University Hospital in Irbid and one at the Queen Alia Military Hospital," Jaber confirmed.
