JMD: Snow to visit Jordan in couple of days

The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) published on Monday, February 25, 2019, the weather forecast for the next few days and the details of the expected weather depression as follows:

Monday, February 25, 2019:

During daytime: Weather is expected to be pleasant in the highlands and warm in the rest of the regions, with some scattered clouds in the sky.

Southern-easterly winds are predicted, causing dust to rise in the Badia region, however, temperatures are expected to be 5-7 degrees higher than their annual average.

JMD warns citizens of the risk of low visibility due to dust in the Badia region.

At night: The weather will be relatively cold in most areas with some cloudy skies.

 

Tuesday, February 26, 2019:

During daytime: A significant decrease in temperatures is expected and the weather will be relatively cold, with a slight chance of scattered rain showers in parts of the northern regions of the Kingdom.

At night: The Kingdom will gradually get affected by a weather depression coming from Cyprus, bringing light showers of rain in the northern parts of Jordan, later extending to the central parts of the Kingdom.

Westerly winds are expected with a speed between 50-60 km/h, causing dust to rise, especially in the Badia region.

  • Risk of slippery roads during rainfall
  • Risk of speedy winds
  • Low visibility due to dust especially in the Badia region

 

Wednesday, February 27, 2019:

During daytime: A further drop in temperatures is in the forecast and the weather will be extremely cold, rainy and cloudy in the northern and central parts of the Kingdom, extending to the eastern and southern parts as of the afternoon.

Rainfall may be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail showers in some regions, leading to the formation of floods in valleys, lowlands, and watersheds.

Wind speed might vary between 60-70 km/h, causing dust to rise in the desert areas.

JMD warns citizens of:

  • Risk of slippery roads during rainfall
  • Risk of speedy winds
  • Risk of flooding in lowlands and valleys.
  • Low visibility due to dust especially in the Badia region
  • Low visibility in the mountain areas due to fog

 

Thursday, February 28, 2019:

Another drop in temperatures is expected, with rainy and cloudy weather in most parts of the Kingdom including the city of Aqaba, south of Jordan.

Rainfall might be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail showers in some regions, leading to the formation of floods in valleys, lowlands, and watersheds.

Showers of snow are predicted to fall in the evening over areas exceeding 1000 meters above sea level. strong winds are expected, which might exceed 80 km/h in some areas, causing dust to rise in the desert areas.

  • Low visibility due to dust in areas with no rainfall
  • Low visibility in the mountain areas due to fog
