A Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesman said in a statement that PSD and gendarmerie in Ajloun governorate on Friday stopped two people in a public vehicle and asked them to present personal IDs which they refused to do and proceeded to call relatives who arrived at the scene and started attacking security crews with stones.

Tear gas was used to disperse the attackers and the two people inside the vehicle were arrested and taken to the security center. The attack resulted in the injury of four security personnel and damage to one of the security vehicles.

The media spokesman said that after that, a group of people returned and started a riot by blocking the public road and throwing stones at passing vehicles. The rioters were dealt with and the road was reopened.

However, the rioters continued to provoke the security force and fired machine-guns directly at them from inside a forested area injuring two people by random gunfire who were taken in an ambulance with unidentified gunshot wounds, one of them died. The body was transferred to forensics to determine the cause of death, the other person is still being treated.

A few security vehicles were damaged by the gunfire, and the attackers proceeded to burn another government vehicle, as well as the residence of Ajloun’s governor which was partially burnt, and a few government institutions were damaged with gunfire. A passerby was wounded in the abdomen.

The media spokesman said that an investigation to the incident is ongoing.
