The American cartoonist, Bob Giffens, who has given the world famous characters associated with the childhood of millions around the world like Tom and Jerry, died at the age of 99.

Giffens died of a severe respiratory failure, his daughter said on Facebook.

The 60-year-old Giffins journey has been filled by cartoon characters such as Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Babaie, Snow White, Alvin and the Squirrels.

Giffens earned his first job at Disney in 1937 when he worked on two characters Donald Duck and Snow White.

Then in 1940 he joined Warner Brothers, where he invented the character of Bugs Bunny.

Many companies initially thought that Giffens' work was "so nice" that it would not fit into a cartoon, but his redesign of Lonnie's main character gave him fame.
