There will be no magical fun in Saudi Arabia according to Saudi’s General Entertainment Authority (GEO), who announced a ban on magic shows in the kingdom.

According to Al-Watan newspaper, the GEA also noted that women are not allowed to take part in live shows without written approval from the authority, even if they are intended for family entertainment.

However, the GEA will allow women to take part in live shows which are held only for women.

The GEA stressed that any violations of the restrictions, conditions or commitments would give the authority the right to take necessary measures and refer offenders to the relevant legal entities.

Saudi Prince Muhammed bin Salman has recently pushed to modernize Saudi Arabia and improve its international image, including a number of improvements on women’s rights in the country.

However, under Saudi law, women still cannot mix freely with men, obtain a passport or leave the country without a male guardian’s permission. Women are also forced to wear an abaya that covers their bodies down to their feet, among other rules.
