A drive-by attack was launched on the Riyadh headquarters of Saudi's religious police on Tuesday night, the Associated Press (AP) on Wednesday quoted a state-linked Saudi news website as saying.

The website Ajel reported on Wednesday that unknown assailants opened fire on the building, which houses the religious police, officially called the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, but known in Arabic as the “mutaween”.

No one was injured in the attack, AP reported the website as saying.

The drive-by attack comes a week after Ajel and other Saudi media outlets reported that the chief of the religious police in the ultraconservative province of Qassim was assassinated by unknown assailants.

Fahd Al Khudeir Al Afaleq was shot twice in the chest and killed while in his home, with the house then set on fire an in attempt to destroy evidence and conceal the crime, AP quote local Saudi press as saying.
