Drone footage from an Italian media outlet shows a blaze tearing through the historic Bernaga Monastery in La Valletta Brianza, founded in 1628, about 30 kilometres east of Milan.

All 22 cloistered nuns were evacuated from the scene without injuries, according to Italian media reports, while most of the artworks on site are said to have been destroyed.

The convent is also known as the place where Carlo Acutis, the first saint of the new millennium—canonized on September 7, 2025, by Pope Leo XIV—received his First Communion. The cause of the fire is still unclear, although the mayor of Lecco mentioned a possible short circuit.
