Thousands of people took to the streets in Paris, Marseille and Bordeaux on Saturday, to demand greater purchasing power and defend public services amid rising living costs.

In Bordeaux, more than 15,000 people marched, according to the prefecture, despite a ban on demonstrations. Clashes between protesters and police broke out at the end of the march.

In Paris, authorities imposed a route for the procession, while demonstrators in Marseille warned that the government’s increasingly hardline stance could bring more people onto the streets.
