Firefighters worked to extinguish fires in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia after a large-scale overnight Russian attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike damaged two residential buildings, a university building and a shopping centre.

Emergency services reported that five people were injured.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across France to protest a proposed law that would introduce a presumption that police and gendarmes act lawfully when using their firearms.

The proposal, approved by French lawmakers on July 7, would mean officers are presumed to have acted within the law when using their weapons, though that presumption could be challenged with evidence to the contrary.

Protesters have described the measure as a potential “license to kill” and are calling for the bill to be blocked before it is debated in the French Senate. 

The demonstrations were backed by civil rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the Human Rights League, as well as left-wing groups and a judges’ union.

In Paris, police estimated that around 21,000 people joined the march. Left-wing leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is running in the 2027 presidential election, joined protesters as crowds chanted slogans opposing the law and police conduct.

'Israeli' forces raided a hospital in Ramallah following a shooting attack north of the West Bank city, where a suspected gunman was arrested.

The forces later withdrew from the area. 'Israel’s' army chief Eyal Zamir said authorities would impose a closure on the suspect’s village and investigate anyone accused of assisting him.

Thousands of protesters marched through Barcelona against plans to expand El Prat Airport, raising concerns about pollution, tourism and the impact on local communities and wildlife.

Protesters said a larger airport could increase tourist numbers and put further pressure on the city’s environment and green spaces.

Organizers also warned about the effects of expansion on nature in Barcelona and surrounding areas.

A wildfire is raging on San Marcos Hill near the Colombian tourist town of Villa de Leyva, with flames spreading across the hillside.

Colombian authorities say the blaze has destroyed around 40 hectares of forest. The fire is burning near the colonial town, located about three hours from Bogotá.

Dutch riot police clashed with around 500 far-right protesters during a rally in central The Hague.

Protesters threw fireworks and other projectiles at police after chanting anti-Semitic slogans. Several people were arrested, while water cannons were briefly used to disperse the crowd.

The “We Are The People” rally was held to protest government policies, particularly on immigration.

At least 31 people, including 16 police personnel, were killed in an explosion and gun attack on a police headquarters in Kohat, northern Pakistan, according to a senior police official cited by AFP.

Attackers stormed the Old Police Lines complex on Friday, triggering clashes that were still ongoing. Electricity workers repaired damaged power lines while security personnel patrolled the site, where explosions damaged buildings and left rubble across the area.

The local militant group Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan, a faction linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.
