Images posted on the “Vatrogasci-193” Facebook page, which is dedicated to Croatian firefighting operations, show a wildfire raging close to the town of Milna on the island of Brac with strong winds hampering efforts to bring the blaze under control.

The firefighters are being assisted by several water-bombing aircraft.

Croatian authorities have issued an emergency alert to warn residents and tourists in the area.

The fire broke out on Thursday evening in the western part of Brac, one of the largest islands in Croatia's Adriatic archipelago.
