Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour was laid to rest in his hometown of Birzeit on Wednesday, August 26, as family members, friends, artists, intellectuals and Palestinian cultural figures gathered to bid farewell to one of the country’s most prominent visual artists.

Mansour died on August 24 at the age of 79 after a career spanning more than five decades. His work focused on Palestine, its land, heritage and collective memory, with his iconic painting “Camel of Hardship” becoming one of the defining images of Palestinian art.

His death was widely mourned across Palestinian cultural circles, with tributes highlighting his role in shaping the visual identity of Palestine and preserving its history through art.

Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, announced the end of the group's mission and its dissolution as an independent military force, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA.

Abdi said the Syrian Democratic Forces would be fully integrated into Syrian state institutions, marking a major development in the future of the force.

The announcement comes amid efforts to restructure Syria's military and security institutions and integrate armed groups into the country's state framework.
