Columns of smoke and flames rise from the Wyndham-affiliated Viva Dominicus Beach hotel in the town of Bayahibe, southeastern Dominican Republic, as a major fire tore through the resort on June 19th.

About 1,690 guests were evacuated and relocated, according to the Emergency Operations Center (COE), and an Italian tourist died from smoke inhalation.
