A humanitarian disaster has struck northern Syria after the collapse of the earthen embankment of Al-Siha Dam in the eastern Idlib countryside, triggered by heavy rainfall in recent days.
Images and circulating footage show extensive destruction in the village of Hmeimat al-Dayr, where sudden floodwaters swept through residential areas and farmland.
The rushing waters inundated the village, damaging and flooding more than 150 homes.
Large areas of agricultural land were also destroyed, wiping out crops that local residents depend on as a primary source of income. Several livestock animals were reported dead.
Footage showed streets and neighborhoods submerged under deep muddy waters, forcing residents to flee for their lives and leave behind their belongings, which were engulfed by the floods.
