Developments in Syria

Armed groups launched a major assault on Aleppo in late November 2024, marking one of the fiercest battles in years. Despite reports of troop withdrawals, the Syrian military confirmed its presence in Homs and surrounding areas, with reinforcements and heavy weaponry deployed to counter the offensive.

The Syrian Army reported inflicting heavy losses on armed groups, including hundreds of casualties, destroyed vehicles, and 17 downed drones. Russia has pledged additional military support, expected to arrive within 72 hours, to bolster defenses.

Military operations have resulted in 255 fatalities, primarily combatants from both sides, according to AFP.
