  • Soldiers of the ‘Israeli’ military's Golani Brigade reportedly stole 250 goats from Syrian farmers during a mission and smuggled them into ‘Israeli’ territory using pre-arranged trucks.
  • The incident led to the dismissal and suspension of involved officers, while the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture is now searching for the unvaccinated herd due to significant bio-security risks to local livestock.

Soldiers from the ‘Israeli’ military’s Golan Brigade stole approximately 250 goats from Syrian land into ‘Israeli’-controlled areas.

The event occurred during a “mission” inside Syrian territory approximately two weeks before January 16, according to reports from Hebrew media.

The battalion, stationed in the occupied Golan Heights, identified the herd belonging to Syrian farmers and proceeded to steal the animals using pre-arranged trucks.

The goats were initially brought into ‘Israeli’ territory before being distributed to several farms in settlements within the West Bank.

‘Israeli’ forces occupied parts of southern Syria following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 202.

The smuggling was uncovered the morning after the transfer when a local farmer in the Golan Heights observed dozens of goats wandering along a main road and alerted ‘Israeli’ authorities.

This prompted an immediate investigation by military police according to Hebrew media.

Searches continued for the animals, with around 200 goats reportedly still roaming unmarked and unvaccinated in ‘Israel’ and the West Bank, while the remainder remained scattered in Syria.

In response to the findings, the report said that the military took disciplinary measures against those involved.

The squad commander was dismissed from his position, the company commander received a formal reprimand, and the entire team was suspended from duties for an extended period.

The’Israeli’ Ministry of Agriculture has become involved due to potential health risks posed by the unvaccinated and unmarked goats, which could impact local livestock populations.
