The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone in the Riyadh region early on Saturday.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki stated on X that air defenses “intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone in the Riyadh area.”

In a follow-up post, he said fragments from the interception fell with no injuries, and authorities were inspecting the site.
The incident forms part of a pattern of repeated aerial threats against Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
Coalition statements have reported multiple interceptions of drones and ballistic missiles, including over Riyadh, southern regions, and other areas, which it attributes to Yemen’s Houthi movement.
Fighting between the coalition and the Houthis has intensified this month.
Earlier attacks included strikes that temporarily disrupted operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and caused casualties and damage elsewhere in the kingdom, according to Saudi authorities.
The Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen and are widely reported to receive Iranian support, have claimed responsibility for various attacks on Saudi targets.
No further details on the origin or intended target of the latest drone were immediately provided in the coalition’s statement.
