Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group said it carried out three military operations using dozens of ballistic missiles, targeting an airport and military installations in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the first operation targeted King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh, claiming it successfully hit its target.
The second operation targeted aircraft parking areas, ammunition depots, drone control centers and other sites at King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Saree claimed the strikes were accurate and direct.
The third operation targeted the Southern Naval Base of Saudi Arabia’s Border Guard Forces in Jizan, with the spokesperson claiming the attack caused deaths and injuries among Saudi soldiers and officers.
The claims have not been independently verified.
Escalating cross-border attacks
The statement comes amid renewed fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities said on Sunday that air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh and a cruise missile aimed at Khamis Mushait.
The Saudi-led coalition also reported intercepting 10 ballistic missiles targeting southern Saudi Arabia.
The escalation has also affected civilian infrastructure.
King Khalid International Airport partially resumed operations on Sunday after suspending services following an October 10 attack claimed by the Houthis that killed 13 people.
The renewed hostilities have shattered a UN-brokered truce that had largely held since 2022. Saudi Arabia intervened in Yemen's civil war in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government, a year after the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa.
