  • Chilean football club Deportivo Palestino welcomed Irish rap trio Kneecap, highlighting their shared support for the Palestinian people.
  • The meeting featured a special-edition T-shirt carrying a message against genocide, apartheid and occupation.
  • The visit adds to Kneecap’s public record of pro-Palestinian advocacy, including statements and performances that have drawn attention to the war in Gaza.

Chilean football club Deportivo Palestino welcomed on Thursday Irish rap trio Kneecap in a meeting that brought together two groups that have publicly expressed support for the Palestinian people.

In a post on X, the club thanked the Belfast-based group for visiting and for using its platform to support Palestine. The meeting also featured a special-edition T-shirt bearing a message against “genocide, apartheid, and occupation.”

“More than a team, a whole people,” the club wrote, invoking its slogan, Todo Un Pueblo, which reflects its identity as a football club founded by members of Chile’s Palestinian community.

Founded in 1920, Deportivo Palestino has maintained a visible connection to Palestine through its name, crest and colors. The club has become a prominent symbol of the Palestinian diaspora in Chile, home to one of the largest Palestinian communities outside the Middle East.

Kneecap, known for their Irish-language lyrics and confrontational political commentary, have also made support for Palestinians a recurring theme in their public appearances. The group has criticized ‘Israel’s’ assault on Gaza and called attention to the plight of Palestinians through performances and statements.

Their position attracted international attention during their April 2025 appearances at Coachella, where they displayed pro-Palestinian messages and accused ‘Israel’ of genocide. Their political statements subsequently became a subject of public debate over the boundaries of political expression in the music industry.

At Glastonbury in June 2025, the group again used its performance to draw attention to Palestine, as festivalgoers waved Palestinian flags and chanted in support of Palestinian freedom.

The meeting with Deportivo Palestino extends that advocacy beyond the concert stage, connecting the group’s political activism with a football club whose identity has long been tied to Palestinian heritage.

For both, the visit offered an opportunity to make that connection visible: through music, football and a shared message of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
