  • The former heavyweight champion appeared alongside Trump at a South Carolina campaign rally earlier in the evening before traveling with him back to Washington

US President Donald Trump shared a moment with reporters on the Joint Base Andrews tarmac on Wednesday night, joking about taking on former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield in a bout.

Stepping off the aircraft alongside Holyfield following a campaign rally in South Carolina, Trump introduced the retired fighter to the press pool as "one of the greatest fighters ever in the world" and "the real deal".

Trump asked reporters "you think I can take him in a fight? I don't know, this would be... pretty strong."

Holyfield also made a surprise appearance alongside Trump during a campaign rally at Clemson University's T. Ed Garrison Arena on Wednesday.

Trump introduced the hall-of-fame boxer to the audience, highlighting Holyfield's career and willingness to face heavier opponents throughout his career.

Holyfield expressed his gratitude for his long-standing relationship with Trump, telling the audience, "I thank Donald Trump. I have a great relationship with him... Every time I fought, I fought to win, and he gave me the opportunity, and I'm so happy for him to be our president".
