  • Britain will deploy RAF Typhoon fighter jets to help defend Saudi cities and critical infrastructure against Houthi aerial attacks, alongside an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers.
  • The move expands earlier British defensive support, which included an RAF Voyager refueling aircraft, air defense equipment and personnel already helping protect Saudi Arabia.

Britain will deploy Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets on defensive missions to help protect Saudi Arabia from escalating Houthi attacks, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing British officials familiar with the decision.

The aircraft will help defend Saudi cities and critical infrastructure against aerial attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement, according to the report. Britain will also provide an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers as part of the support package.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has approved the decision, according to the report. The UK Ministry of Defence had not immediately commented on the latest deployment when Reuters published its report.

The reported deployment expands Britain’s military support for Saudi Arabia following a September announcement that the UK would provide an RAF Voyager aircraft for air-to-air refueling to support Saudi defensive operations. That package also built on existing British air defense equipment and personnel in the kingdom.

The move comes amid a recent escalation in Houthi attacks on Saudi territory. Reuters reported that a strike on a government security training camp in Yemen had killed 58 people, citing Yemeni authorities, as fighting intensified across the country.
