- Yemeni government-aligned forces have reported recapturing the Sanamat area in Taiz and advancing on fronts in Marib.
Yemeni government forces have intensified military operations against Houthi positions as missile attacks on Marib Governorate and fighting in Taiz continue to escalate, according to local reports.
The Marib Governorate Media Office said the Houthis had launched a total of 24 ballistic missiles and other projectiles toward Marib over a 72-hour period. The authorities warned that the attacks threatened residential neighborhoods, civilian infrastructure, residents and displaced people.
Yemeni government-aligned forces have continued advancing on several fronts in Marib, targeting Houthi positions and military installations.
According to Yemen Monitor, military sources reported that government forces launched an assault on Houthi positions in Wadi Al-Hajla and the Al-Ra’idah hills, north of Harib District in southern Marib.
The sources said aircraft carried out seven airstrikes against Houthi positions in Wadi Al-Hajla and the highlands surrounding Mala’a Dam. Other strikes targeted fortifications and gatherings near Um Rish military camp.
Government forces also reportedly reached areas between Majzar and Ragwan districts on Marib’s northern outskirts, marking their first advance into those areas since 2021, according to the report.
In a separate development, Yemeni government forces reportedly recaptured the Sanamat area in Al-Misrakh District, south of Taiz Governorate.
A report published on October 18 said government-aligned forces had also seized ammunition allegedly left behind by Houthi fighters as they withdrew from the area.
The Taiz Military Command reportedly claimed that 100 Houthi fighters had been killed and 190 wounded in clashes the previous day. These casualty figures have not been independently verified.
The escalation has also raised concerns about civilian safety in Taiz. On October 14, local media reported that a woman was killed and three people were injured when a Houthi missile malfunctioned and fell in the governorate’s Al-Shamayatayn District.
Separately, shelling reportedly struck civilian homes in the Watir area of Sabir al-Mawadim District, with local reports indicating additional deaths and injuries but providing no confirmed toll.
The latest developments come amid renewed fighting between Yemeni government-aligned forces and the Houthis across Marib, Taiz and other contested areas, threatening to deepen the country’s prolonged conflict.
